WE ARE THE CURE - HIGH SCHOOL VIDEO CONTEST

The We Are The Cure – High School Video Contest is designed to give students currently enrolled in an eligible metro Atlanta high school, the opportunity to develop a video to encourage their peers, local community and the overall Black community to join the Be The Match Registry®.

VIDEO CONTENT THEME

Be The Match manages one of the largest marrow registries in the world. For patients diagnosed with sickle cell, leukemia, lymphoma and other life-threatening diseases, a bone marrow or stem cell transplant (from a genetically matched donor) may be their best or only hope for a cure. However, seventy percent (70%) of patients do not have a suitably matched donor in their family. As a result, these patients turn to Be The Match in the hopes of finding an unrelated, life-saving match.

Unfortunately, Black and African American patients only have a 23% chance of finding a match by ethnicity on the Be The Match registry. To help more Black and African American patients find their cure, more Black and African American donors are desperately needed. Of the 22 million people on the registry, only 4% are Black. Every person who joins the registry gives patients hope for a cure. In essence, the cure for these diseases can be found within our own communities.
We Are The Cure.

Entrants must create an original video, not to exceed 60 seconds (1-minute) in length addressing either of the following themes:

Why African-Americans should join the Be The Match Registry?
Why I will join or why I have joined the Be The Match Registry?
